Editada en noviembre de 1998 dentro de su álbum debut "Hear My Cry", la canción no despegó de inmediato: alcanzó solo el puesto 24 en el Reino Unido. Todo cambió a principios de 2000, cuando un DJ de una radio de Tampa (Florida) empezó a pincharla y el tema explotó en Estados Unidos, llegando al número 8 del Billboard Hot 100. Ese éxito hizo que Universal la relanzara en el Reino Unido, donde esta vez sí llegó al número 1, se mantuvo 14 semanas en el top 40 y terminó siendo el tercer single más vendido de 2000 en el país.
Antes de ser cantante, Sonique (Sonia Clarke) ya era una DJ reconocida en la escena de clubs británica. Sobre la letra, contó que está inspirada en un amor no correspondido: "Es sobre un chico que me gustaba mucho hace años, pero que no sentía lo mismo por mí. Era muy exitoso y yo no, en aquel momento. Él pensaba que yo estaba enamorada de su éxito. Esta canción es solo una forma de declarar que era a él a quien quería".
Al ser relanzada en 2000 se grabó un segundo videoclip, distinto al original de 1998, en el que Sonique interpreta a una camarera que de noche se convierte en DJ.
En 2024, el tema volvió a sonar fuerte gracias a un remix de Matt Sassari y Hugel con la propia Sonique, que también tuvo mucho éxito en clubs y radiofórmulas.
