Dolly Parton escribió esta canción en 1980 para la película "9 to 5" (Cómo eliminar a su jefe), en la que también actuaba junto a Jane Fonda y Lily Tomlin. Mientras rodaba la película, Parton descubrió que podía usar sus largas uñas postizas para imitar el sonido de una máquina de escribir, y así compuso el ritmo de la canción directamente en el set, chasqueando las uñas entre sí.
El tema fue todo un éxito: llegó al número uno de las listas Billboard Hot 100 y también de country durante dos semanas, y fue disco de platino. Además recibió una nominación a los Grammy por la banda sonora, y en 2004 quedó en el puesto 78 de la lista de las 100 mejores canciones del cine según el American Film Institute.
