Tema que da título al séptimo álbum de estudio de Iron Maiden, publicado en 1988. Con casi diez minutos de duración, es la canción más larga y ambiciosa del disco, escrita por Steve Harris, y mezcla el heavy metal con toques de rock progresivo.
El disco entero es un álbum conceptual inspirado en la novela "Seventh Son" (Alvin Maker) de Orson Scott Card, sobre un niño que nace con poderes extraordinarios por ser, literalmente, el séptimo hijo de un séptimo hijo, una creencia muy arraigada en el folclore británico e irlandés. Curiosamente, casualidad o no, este también fue el séptimo álbum de estudio de la banda. Steve Harris contó que, para que la historia encajara bien entre canción y canción, prepararon primero un guion básico del argumento antes de componer.
En cuanto al significado, la letra narra el nacimiento del "séptimo hijo": una criatura marcada por el destino desde antes de nacer, disputada entre el bien y el mal, que llega al mundo con dones de clarividencia y sanación que ni él mismo entiende todavía. Es la pieza central de la historia del disco, el punto de partida de todo lo que se cuenta después en temas como "The Prophecy" o "The Clairvoyant".
